The first thing to do when blogging hits the top of your to do list is to stop & consider exactly why do you want a blog? Blogs (like dogs) are not just for Christmas - they require TLC, determination, stamina, updating, tweaking, maintaining and can become all consuming of your time, focus, money & effort.
WARNING: It's not enough to just build a blog. You got to make that blog work for you.
I know first hand from writing and publishing 4 blogs in as many years that updating, maintaining & promoting a blog can be time consuming, a steep learning curve & a job that needs constant tweaking & enhancing as technology changes - let alone be a scary time as you're kind of wearing your heart on your sleeve by putting yourself, your views, your opinions, your thoughts out there for the world to see & comment on.
Blogging isn't recommended for the faint-hearted, it can take several years for a blog to become an effective and, more importantly, profitable part of your marketing arsenal. Your blog
needs to be regularly updated with fresh, appealing, informative and interesting content to attract, retain & convert readers into customers. And there's no secret sauce, magic mix or guaranteed gameplan that it will work.
You're going to need to dream up & plan blog post content, write copy, take & edit photos, shoot & edit videos, keep your social media hangouts & followers up to date.
All of which requires time, patience, consistency and new skills & knowledge you may not yet have acquired or even knew existed.
How do I know all this?
From first hand experience, years of learning, research, reading and testing. From the previous 4 I now run 2 online creative blogs at www.vintagecelebrations.co.uk and at www.scrapbookpapercraftjournalingcardmakinguk.co.uk which are updated at least once a day so we know what we're talking about! And obviously this blog here which makes 3 in total.
I've personally written over 800 blog posts and welcomed over 150,000 page views with daily growing subscriber lists in the hundreds in just over a year.
